International Spy Museum

With the recent release of Breach, Robert Hanssen is once again in the public eye and the topic of much discussion. The Hanssen case has been called the the worst intelligence disaster in US history. However, while a great deal is known concerning Hanssen spying activities over the twenty two years that he gave classified documents to the USSR and later Russia, the reason behind his betrayal is still shrouded in a great deal of mystery and controversy. Helping to give answers to the daunting task of ‘why,’ The International Spy museum in DC on November 28, 2007 will open a new exibit on Hanssen. This new exibit is from the unique perspective of his friend and longtime collegue David G. Major, who for 14 years worked with Hanssen at FBI headquarters in Washington DC. A privately owned museum, The International Spy Museum is dedicated to the field of espionage. Located in the Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and about one block west of the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station, the museum covers espionioge techniques from the Greek and Roman empires right up to the cold war and today.

Beautiful white beaches stretch across the city of Jacksonville, where the sun shines warmly and paradise is at the tips of your fingers. With easy access to the crystal blue Atlantic Ocean, the best of urban entertainment, and a thriving nightlife, Jacksonville provides big city luxuries in style. The city’s beginnings are credited to the St. Johns River, where farmers once forded their livestock on the way to the market, and today it has become a major port of the United States. Once Henry Flager’s Florida East Coast Railway was installed, visitors flocked from around the nation. During both World War I and World War II, the convenience of the St. Johns River led to the establishment of the Jacksonville Naval Air Station, and many military-related industries have developed since. The Professional Golf Association Tour set up headquarters in Jacksonville in 1979, attracting world-class golfers and making the city one of most preferred golf havens in the world. Hometown sports fans also boast the National Football League team the Jacksonville Jaguars and, in 2005, proudly hosted the Super Bowl. The multipurpose Alltel Stadium not only showcases the Jaguars, but also hosts concerts, college football, and monster truck shows. With the Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Jacksonville Beach in the vicinity, Jacksonville Landing is a popular area known for its spectacular shopping, eateries, and nightclubs. The Jacksonville Zoological Gardens houses jaguars, lions, elephants, and other diverse exotic animals, and is an excellent opportunity to learn and entertain for all ages. Dive into Jacksonville’s history by exploring the Black Heritage Trail or learn the art of beer brewing at the Budweiser’s Brewery Tour. One of the city’s most masterful art exhibits is displayed at the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Science and History offers three floors of hands-on science and history exhibits. With the largest urban park system in the country, Metropolitan Park and the Riverwalk are only two of the hundreds of opportunities to appreciate the city’s natural beauty. There are plenty of ongoing outdoor cultural events to participate in as well, like the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, the free Spring Music Fest, or the monthly outdoor Art Walk. As one of the largest cities in Florida and one of the most popular vacation destinations across the nation, there are many ways to traverse the area. The Jacksonville International Airport is right outside downtown Jacksonville, the Skyway spans the St. Johns River, and river taxis ferry across the water as well. With ideal weather yearlong and a downtown area enlivened by natural beauty, Jacksonville, Florida offers top-notch attractions befitting only the best of cities.

As the land of endless summer, it’s no surprise that surfing on man-made waves, relaxing on a lazy river and slipping down a waterslide, can beat the heat and be exciting at the same time. Florida is home to the most water parks in the U.S.. Walt Disney World, along with Universal Studios Escape, Sea World and a host of themed attractions offer thrills for all ages. The nightlife scene in Florida starts as early or as late as you’d like. Find a waterfront bar for Happy Hour and, if you’re on the Gulf coast, an amazing sunset. Or, for late-night partying, hit the nightclubs at hotspots across the state. Florida restaurants serve all your favorite cuisines, along with some newly invented varieties you’re going to love. See Florida from another view when you put on a mask and fins and swim in the many waters. Our mild climate and diverse habitats attract hundreds of bird species. Upscale clothing boutiques and home décor shops to factory outlet stores and colorful flea markets offer many different shopping experiences. Florida has so many places to go, things to do that nobody’s passion is denied.
